Student Spotlight: Marcus's Journey from Classroom to Career

When Marcus first walked through our doors at 16, he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life. School felt disconnected from the real world, and the traditional college path didn't feel like the right fit.

"I always liked working with my hands," Marcus recalls. "But nobody ever told me that could be a real career."

Finding His Path

Marcus enrolled in our Electrical Trades program in the fall and took to it immediately. Within weeks, he was learning to read blueprints, wire circuits, and understand the National Electrical Code. His instructor, a master electrician with 20 years of experience, saw his potential right away.

"Marcus has a natural instinct for problem-solving," his instructor noted. "He asks the right questions and he's not afraid to get his hands dirty."

Landing the Apprenticeship

Six months after completing the program, Marcus secured a paid apprenticeship with a licensed electrical contractor in Decatur. He's now earning $18/hour while working toward his journeyman's license — a credential that will put him on track for a career earning $62,000+ per year.

His Message to Other Youth

"Don't sleep on the trades," Marcus says. "I'm 17, making real money, learning a real skill. My future is solid."
